提唱 Teisho at Rinzai Hakone Zendo

This is Teisho from our weekly zazen sitting at Hakone Gardens. Zengo are given as part of the"teisho" (teaching) at the end of the zazen period. The phrases are meant to encourage students to deepen their own understanding of the meaning by opening "shin" (heart/mind).

惺惺著
sei sei jaku

Are you awake?

Rev Ito talked about "sei sei jaku" which is from mukanmon, "Gateless Gate" case 12.    This means "Are you awake?"
